Monday Morning #4In 1 Samuel we see the story of Hannah who gives her first son Samuel to God. Hannah could not have children for a long time so once she finally did she was so grateful to God that she literally gave her son to him. It brought up the question do I give out of duty or gratitude? When we are driving down the road and see somebody stranded often we think "I should help." Never mind if we actually stop or not! Saying I should help insinuates that we help out of duty not because we are so grateful that God has given us a car and cell phone that work. This week when you are asked to write a check, give your time, tithe or even just observe a need pray that your response will come from gratitude not duty. |

You know, I agree with what you are saying here, because I do think that most people do give out of obligation or duty, but I never have, at least not that I am aware of. I always have given out of gratitude, and I suppose I should be thankful for that. Is that ironic, or does it just make me "weird?" Good point, nonetheless.
