Richard Curtis is a British filmmaker who's work you have probably seen. Films such as Noting Hill and The girl in the cafe are his work. He is also the guy behind comic relief and the episode of American Idol called Idol gives back when Simon and Ryan Seacrest went to Africa. He also organized the National Day of Giving in Britain which raised hundreds of million of dollars.
Here are the notes....
*Most people make movies about the worst thing that can happened to you. I make movies about the best things that can happen to you. People say my movies are unrealistic. One in a million people get stabbed in a barn in the country by an escaped convict and the movie creates real fears in people. I make movies about people falling in love and they leave saying i wish that could happen! Millions of people fall in love every month!
*There is great power in humor.
*Curtis writes Mr. Bean and he often asks the question "will they get the joke in Egypt?" he wants to make it so simple that everyone gets it.
*I never hire anybody for what they have done before but for what they are going to do.
*Don't be to emotional about failure.
*This is the best thing i heard him say: i have no embarrassment about asking people to give.
*People are looking for the opportunity to give.
*People lose themselves in the glory of political theory.
*If i am going to pray for something i better be acting on it too.
Some of the closing remarks about Curtis from Hybles:
*This guy disturbs me.
*His heart breaks over the things that God's heart breaks over.
*He claims he can really only do one thing well but he ruthless does what he does well to end injustice.
