Last week my wife and I got to
stop for a few days at the beach. I think there is something spiritual about
stopping. When we
work,
work and
work it makes us less effective and aware then if we
work,
stop then
work. I can sense way more direction from God in my life when I
stop then when I
work.
When we work, we concentrate on what is possible through our own power. When we stop, we can reflect on what is possible through God's. Often the
stop is what makes the
work so evident. Imagine a drummer who played every drum on every beat. How monotonous and dull would a football game be if there wasn’t time to
stop and make ourselves more aware of the magnitude of the previous and next play.
Jesus had to stop. He often had to not heal sick people or preach to another crowd because
he valued stopping and seeking guidance from God on what to do next. In Mark 7 we see Jesus enter a house “and did not want anyone to know it.” He was trying to
stop.
Take Jesus’ lead today and
stop. Give God five minutes outside of your normal environment and let him change the direction of your
work.
